IS BLOGGING DYING?

I've only a few of my bloglinks that I check on who blog much anymore. It seems most people I know that used to blog aren't doing it much these days. Even my own posts are a lot more sporadic than they used to be over the years, but I think it's because I don't have as many readers/bloggers as I once did. I may get one or two comments, if that. Everyone has gone over to FaceBook.

I've been on FaceBook for a long time, but never really used it. I only got it to keep in touch with some friends who were only on FaceBook and nowhere else.

Recently I've started using it a lot more, because that's where most of my friends and family are. I don't hate it like I used to, probably because out of necessity I've become more familiar with it, and used to the short posts people make there. I still enjoy blogging, and I love reading friends' blog posts when they do post. It just seems like it's becoming a dying social form. Sad, really.

***********************************************************************

My other blog, Stardom Awaits!, has some big changes coming up for our next contest, which we are SO excited about! Stay tuned for that. At the moment, we are still in the middle of voting for the current photo contest, "Fire". If you haven't voted yet and would like to participate, head on over!

My printer gasped and died on me several months ago, and last night my sis Pammie and I were out and about and went to Staples where I got myself a nice little HP three-in-one printer: print/copy/scan, which I'll be hooking up today. We also stopped at Future Shop for something else, and I finally got myself an external hard drive. I figure it's time I got something else to store my photos and files on other than just CD's.

The only other thing I've been thinking about for awhile is getting a small size laptop for convenience, but I keep hesitating. I like my PC, but lots of times if I'm sitting watching TV I think it would be nice to be able to sit and browse the internet, check emails, and blog/facebook without having to sit at my desktop. (anything else, like photo work, would still be done on my PC)

What makes me hesitate is I don't think you can get laptops with XP anymore, which means my beloved Outlook Express email won't be on it. So I'm in a quandry about that. :-(

I'm fortunate in that where I work, we get "Flex Credits" annually, and we can put all or as much as we want on many things, such as a Personal Account. I chose to put $200 on that this year, which means I had $200 to spend on a printer. The rest I put on paying the premiums on my health benefits. It's a great place to work!

Well peeps, all 2 or 3 of you (LOL!), I hope your week has been good to you, and that your upcoming weekend rocks! Until next time, take good care of each other!

PEACE!
Love Jude

Ah Miss Vickytoria! :-)

Well hell if you're checking every few days I'm in trouble then for not posting more often, LOL!

I'm not giving up blogging yet, only if nobody ever reads it anymore. Thank you for being a committed reader darling friend. xoxox

Nice tech toys you got for yourself. Those all in one's can be a pain to setup. Hopefully all went well.

A laptop sounds nice. Your right that XP won't be on it. If you can find something with Windows Vista on it there is something called Windows Mail. I don't use it but it's probably similiar to Outlook Express.

You might consider looking at an iPad. If you get one, configure your account so that messages are left on the server. That way went you get back to your PC they will all still be there and you can file or delete them accordingly.

If you do decide on an iPad I wouldn't go 3G (meaning cellular data) unless you really plan on using this outside of where there is wifi access. That is mostly everywhere which is what makes the iPad so convenient.

I know what you mean about blogging. I don't get many comments, but your always faithful! I still keep going because it just feels good to sit down and type some events and feelings out.

Take care.

I've found the same thing - so many people on my blog list aren't blogging anymore. I've been really bad about not blogging more often. You can add me on your Facebook account if you'd like. My account is under my gmail address.

I have an HP All-in-One printer/scanner and it does the job for me. I liked my Canon that bit the dust better!

Take care and hope you have a good weekend!

Thanks Bobbie, I tried finding you under your gmail addy but nothing comes up. I've sent you an email. ;-) I hope your weekend is good too!

Jer, thanks for the advice.... I'm still sitting on the fence. As for my new printer, NO it hasn't gone well getting it set up for some reason! LOL I've even got my sis help and we just can't get my computer to "recognize" the new printer. We've given up for tonight. *sigh*

Yes I am glad you still blog, and you're right it does feel good to sit and type out your feelings/thoughts to share with people.

Have a peaceful weekend!

You might need to unhook your printer then visit Control Panel - System (where all of your hardware is listed) and look for a Yellow or Red X next to something, probably in the USB area. If you find it delete it. Then use the CD that came with the printer. Follow the instructions that should appear on screen. The software should tell you when to hook up the printer and when to turn it on. That hopefully should resolve your issue.

Oh wow Jer thanks for the advice! I looked and couldn't see anything like that, but under "Hardware" (Control Panel -> System) there is something called "Driver Signing".

It talks about Windows detecting sotware without the logo testing (which is what message kept coming up when I was having trouble) and I have the option to click on "Ignore, install software anyway and don't ask for my approval." Sister Pammie just read about that so I found it. I'll try tomorrow maybe, too tired tonight, LOL!

Wish me luck, and thanks again! ((hugs))

Good luck. Use install software anyway, should work w/o any problems.

Yes when I try again I'll definitely be using the CD to install. Thanks Jer!

So happy that you do blog. It's very cathartic when I do update and blog. Printers...they're so annoying. Mine does well. Yikes, did I just jinx my printer????

Cheers & Love!

Xavier don't jinx your printer! LOL I'm still having problems getting it installed, a little issue between HP and Microsoft. But my sis is looking for fixes online.

I'm glad you blog when you do too, your posts always uplift me! xoxox

I should stop by here more often! Before you get a laptop, tell me what you're looking at and I'll let you know if its worth it. Also, if your company is a Microsoft shop, you may be eligible for the "Home Use" program. For about $20 US, you'll get the FULL LICENSED version of Office 2010 professional, which includes the full version of Outlook and many other great applications. You may want to ask your IT guys about it.

Wow Vince I didn't know that... I will check that out with our I.T. guys if I do decide to get a laptop! As for what I prefer in laptops, one of those really small ones. I think they're about an 8 or 9 inch screen, something like that. My sister has one of those, it's an Acer and she loves it. Thanks for the heads-up!

You want to be careful with those mini's/netbooks. They are under powered. If you want a laptop mostly for internet access, they're fine. But if you want to run applications, it will be slow. In many cases, you can get a pretty good laptop for the same as a netbook/mini. Do your homework before buying.

Good point Vince, thanks. I would still be using my desktop for most everything (photo work, Word, Excel etc.) but I would find it nice to be able to sit in my rocker in front of the TV and be able to check emails, maybe browse a bit online, and blog/Facebook. That's pretty much all I would ever do on a laptop. Do you feel that would be okay on a small one?

Oh and by the way I did write down what you said on Facebook about checking with my company, I will do it but didn't have a chance today. :-)

Jude: Netbooks are very good for that. They do have their uses. If you are interested in that you may also want to look at something else: a Nook Color. Pretty good eReader and has web browsing capabilities. Or, you could go to the dark side and get an iPad. Those are some good alternatives. The advantage of the Nook is that if you get the full 3G version, you have wireless wherever you go without paying anything. The 3G service is free after purchase.

Sorry, the Nook comes in WiFi or 3G. The nook color is WiFi only. But you can surf the web on either.

Facebook can't replace blogging.
- You own your blog
- "They" own your facebook.

To me that is enough reason to use facebook just to announce a new blog post.
