CHANGE

Change is something that can come easy, like a new found love in your life. Or it can come hard, like the loss of a loved one in your life.

Change can be something with minimal discomfort, like when they stop manufacturing your favourite brand of shampoo and you have to find another one you like. Or it can be something that greatly increases your comfort, like a new comfy pair of shoes that don't hurt your toes like the old ones did.

Change of seasons is something that brings about many different levels of feelings. After a long hard winter, the sweet warmth of a spring sun that melts the snow and brings tiny bright green buds to life in the trees. That makes your muscles relax after all that clenching trying to stay warm in the frosty temperatures of months past.

After sweltering heat and relentless dry spells with no rain, the onset of crisp, fresh autumn air is a godsend.

Autumn.

Cooler but fresh and comfortable. The promise of wonderful walks in nature with the sun still beating on you but in a much friendlier way. The refreshing air that fills your lungs as you hear the leaves crunch underfoot.

The COLOURS.

What better way to start your day than looking out your window to see the early morning sun slanting it's rays directly into your favourite red, orange and yellow foliage...... setting it absolutely ON FIRE?

Without the change of seasons that I have known all my life, I think I'd go crazy for want of it. Yes, even the soft falling of huge snowflakes which brings a hush of silence as it fills the world around you; even that is something I look forward to each year. For those of you who don't get any or much snow, do you know what it sounds like when you are in an empty room and how sounds echo and are loud compared to a room full of carpet, draperies and furniture? Sound is muffled. That is what it is like when those big fat snowflakes are falling around you and carpeting the ground. There is a blissful hush of silence as everything becomes "softer" and muted in sound. It's awesome. It's almost..... spiritual.

Every change of season is something I look forward to, even summer..... with the exception of really hot weather and dry conditions. As long as there is a mix of sun and rain and some days that aren't overly hot. Then it's something to enjoy in it's own right, just like the rest of the seasons are.

But my favourite change of season is upon us right now. Autumn.

I can't get enough of autumn and I wish it would last for at least half a year! The temperatures are generally in my personal "perfect" range. The air is more refreshing.

Each season also has it's own unique scent. Winter has a clean, crisp smell that I swear could clear out your lungs if it didn't hurt to inhale a large quantity of such cold air.

Spring's scent is like your favourite laundry softener.... Downy or Fleecy.

Summer smells like hot earth, heated pavement and freshly cut grass.

And then there's Autumn..... there is a most beautiful scent to the dampened leaves laying on the ground.

It's musty and earthy, like fresh soil. I love it!

And those COLOURS!!

THIS change I love. I wish it would last longer, but while it's here I am completely in love with the outdoors!

For me, this is one of those really "comfortable" changes. I hope you're enjoying what this season's splendour means to you.

A few years ago I wrote a poem about it, and although I posted it here back then, I'm feeling the need to share it again. It is actually written about later autumn, when frost first hits:

THE CHANGING

Windfall colours glow in trees
And dance among chill breezes
Autumn's breath cools the air
Before the water freezes.

Clouds skid along in a rush
Much quicker than before
Pumpkins plump while flowers fade
On frosty garden floors.

Summery sun once so warm
Replaced by rays subdued
The laziness of summer gone
Now wintry thoughts intrude.

Proof of breath hangs in the air
From morning exhalations
Frosty crystals on the ground
Are rich in their sensations.

Dried foliage crunches underfoot
Soon blanketed in white
As Mother Earth shares her gift
Of Autumn's wondrous sight.

I hope you are enjoying what this season's beauty brings for you, too. Take great care of each other!

PEACE
Love Jude
