COOL DAYS ARE JUST SO.......COOL

Okay, this is NICE. It's cloudy, cool and really breezy. The temperature is at a high of only 14 C., or 57 F. for my American friends. Quite a nice difference from mid 80's and I'll take it! We even had some rain the other night, and a little sprinkle of it again yesterday. Not much, but at least it's probably keeping us from the drought conditions we had here 2 years in a row, a couple of years ago.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com Ever seen one of these puppies? It's called a "tamper" and it's about the size of one of those jackhammers you see half naked road crew type men with bulging muscles operating, as it shakes their gleaming, sweating........ um okay I got a bit carried away there......... Anyway, these tampers are just as noisy as the jackhammers, and this is what my hubby is using to tamp down the freshly dug out and roadcrush filled new front walkway in our yard. These things take an oil and gas mixture and they STINK to high heavens, and of course the stench is impermeating my house. And the action of it pounding the ground is also impermeating my house. I feel like I have the jitters or something and then I remember it's only the entire block shaking. I wonder if our neighbours still like us at all, even a little bit? I bet they can't wait until all the hammering, sawing and pounding happens...... I know I certainly can't.

There's a guy here from the windows/doors place that is possibly going to be doing our......well, windows and doors. I can't believe how much this stuff costs. No wonder you see homes that are falling apart. Nobody can afford to fix them. You know why? Because we spend all our hard earned cash on utilities these days! The price of gas, water and electricity has skyrocketed to a sickening height, leaving us homeowners with little savings in the bank account. Sheesh. What happened to the family life of the 50's and 60's, when one parent worked (usually the dad), the other stayed home and kept house and cooked and raised kids. Back then, even with one person working, the mortgage got paid off in 25 years and you had a mortgage paper burning party. And that was with an "average size" family of 4 kids, not today's 2 kids. Nowadays you can't afford to have kids AND have electricity! Yup, the almighty DOLLAR. Thing is, we don't have a fancy schmancy house. It's not big and it's sitting on a not so big lot size. But it IS almost 40 yrs old now and we just need things fixed. When it gets to 40 below in the winter, and you can actually SEE the outside through cracks in your door frames; when your sidewalk has collapsed and your deck is rotting to the point your feet can go through them at any time; and when your crappy cement front steps have started to fall away in chunks and you're afraid to step on them to get in and out of the house (not to mention the mailman sueing our asses off ) for fear of the whole thing collapsing and taking it with you ~~ then you know you need to spend mega bucks. Scarey as a menopausal woman with road rage packing a gun.

Welcome to a newcomer on my sidebar, Eva! Eva is new to the blogging world but not to my band of choice, Def Leppard, lol. Yes peeps, yet another fan of theirs in blogland!
