HAPPY CANADA DAY!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CANADA!

July 1st. is Canada's birthday, so to all my Canadian friends and family ~~ Happy Canada Day! This upcoming Tuesday July 1st. is of course our holiday, and we have the day off work to celebrate. Too bad it didn't fall on a Monday this year!

For any of you who are planning a Red and White party, stay safe and have a great time. Get out the sparklers, the red and white balloons and the Canada Flag cake, BBQ those burgers and hot dogs and have plenty of ice on hand for those tall cool ones!

And have FUN!

And now, turn up your sound because here's a special little "picture show" I made last year in honour of Canada's birthday, it's a little tour of this beautiful country from the Atlantic to the Pacific shores, just like the images in the banner at the top of this page. It's only a couple of minutes long but I hope you will enjoy it!

Click HERE to watch it. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CANADA!

While this weekend I celebrate my nationality (in fact I am proud of it year-round) I will also be thinking of my friends to the south of us, whose country also has a birthday coming up next weekend on Friday July 4th!

A very early Happy Fourth of July to my U.S. friends!

Take good care of each other, and have a good weekend.

PEACE!

BLOOMING TEA

It's called NUMI TEAS and the one I have is a Flowering Tea. The box I was given as a gift had 5 or 6 flavours in it, mostly white teas.

This one is "Flower Jewel": "hand picked white tea crowned by a bright pink amaranth flower. The dancing petals bissfully open as sweet jasmine scents this captivating elixir."

I have to say the tea tastes nice, although it's not a very strong variety. However, I've also discovered that any white teas I've tried so far are like the Rooibos teas that I've tried: they all upset my stomach!

I love tea, and my favourite other than a good ol' strong cup of "regular" tea is Tetley's Green Tea. YUM!

***************************************************************************

In just a week or less, I'll be posting here to ask you to go vote for our second monthly Photo Contest.

Stay tuned!

We had some pretty hot weather here yesterday, first official day of summer. My house SUCKS at cooling off so whenever it's hot outside I can't get away from it even in here.

However, after dealing with swollen and sore feet and ankles yesterday, I awoke to cooler temps and a lovely soft rain. It's a nice change!

Heading out for the grocery run with hubby soon. Anyone need anything?

Have a good week coming up everyone, and take good care of each other.

A LITTLE MOONSHINE, ANYONE? *HIC*

Monday night and two nights before full moon, I was actually out in my front yard in my nightgown with camera in hand, admiring the solar lights hubby had placed in our gardens. When I looked up and across the street, I decided I needed to run in the house and grab my tripod to capture some shots of a beautiful scene unfolding before me. The clouds were feathering and floating over the moon, which was as bright as a fireball.

It almost made me want to start howling with the beauty of it!

I hope you're having a groovy week, and not having to put up with too many crabby people like we are at work. Why is it that all the crankpots show up in our office for service when full moon is about to hit and they feel like taking it out on us?

Take good care of each other, and until the new moon.......

PEACE!

Not too overly much to share with you in my life of late ~~ working some extra days as we are short staffed due to losing some staff to a new center we just opened.

I know that a lot of people throughout various areas of North America have been going through some horrendous weather (rain and storm-wise). I hope all of you are safe and sound. Last week we had a bad one blow through here, and we had a tornado watch on the south side of our city, which was moving west. I work and live in the west end! Needless to say we were all glued to the windows at work, re-living the terrible Black Friday we had here back in 1987 when lives were taken.

We were very relieved when nothing hit the ground except a lot of hail and tons of rain. Since then we've had some rainy days and it's been really nice not to have really high temperatures even when the sun is out. I know it's coming though, so I'll be whining and bitching when the heat hits us. Bleh!

Back down to the laundry room, must get it all done today, I'm working an extra Saturday shift tomorrow. (ugh) I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

Thank you again for participating in the photo contest, be safe, and take good care of each other.

PEACE!

SINGING PLANTING IN THE RAIN

He wasn't "singing", but hubby was happily out there in a rainstorm yesterday planting some more new shrubs and perennials we bought. Slowly, our gardens have been filling up over the last two years since he started them.

He does the actual gardening, watering, weeding and fertilizing; I do the "come with me to help me decide what plants to get honey" and the "come outside and tell me where we should put these plants honey". I made a deal with him years ago that I'll do the indoors stuff (cleaning, cooking, etc.) and he can do the outside work. I HATE being out in the heat and/or insects, and unless I'm wandering around with my camera you won't see me outdoors overly much in the summer.

I picked this shrub out at the nursery, it's a Flamingo Willow and I was attracted to the white and pink leaf tips, which look great against all the greens in the garden. The whole idea I'm trying to create is a mixture of colours out there, lights, darks, different shades of green and some burgundy and golds.

Mixing in different textures as well makes it more interesting to look at. There are a couple of kinds of grasses, some tiny leafed ground crawlers, broad leafed plants, shrubs of different varieties and flowering plants.

So far I think we're doing a pretty good job of those things. (keep in mind it has yet to "fill in" for the summer) It's a variety of textures and colours, in my humble and "know nothing about gardening" opinion, that make a garden look interesting. At least for ME, and it could be just personal taste.

Here you can see the 2 yr. old "Snow In Winter" ground cover with it's white flowers starting to pop. The dark green plants ("flashing light" dianthus) around it sport beautiful little red flowers and it looks so pretty when they are both in bloom at the same time. However the dianthus hasn't flowered quite yet, everything being a little late this year due to the early spring winter storm we had.

At day's end, hubby was happy to be out there in his rainproof bright orange "covies", taking advantage of Mother Nature's FREE WATER to help feed the newlings. What we also bought the day before was a huge yellow flowered Day Lily, 2 kinds of Spirea (pink flowers and red), a Blue Star juniper ornamental dwarf tree, and some Scotch Moss to plant along the fence.

It's definitely looking good out there, and at this time of year it's so nice to see the difference after the "yuk" winter leaves in the gardens. It's popping!

And I'll never lose hubby in the rain in THAT outfit, would I?

And Tracey, he's finally after all this time agreed to plant those sunflower seeds! I hope they will still grow!

And, for anyone who missed my last post, a reminder to anyone who hasn't already gone over to vote for their favourite photograph, the voting for May's contest ends Friday June 13th. at Stardom Awaits!, thanks! The winner will be announced on the weekend and the JUNE contest will be at the end of June, with a reminder here at the Hippie Chick's blog.

Such fun!

I hope you all have a great weekend, stay safe and take good care of each other.

PEACE!

PHOTO CONTEST!

It's here!

A few friends of mine with cameras in hand had an idea for some fun, and we now have a brand new blog started up just for photo competitions.

This month's theme is "Patriotic", and we've now finished posting our entries. Each of us are posting blog entries just like I am here on our blogs/websites for people to go vote.

Please make your way over to Stardom Awaits! and vote for you favourite photo; voting is anonymous so don't worry about hurting anyone's feelings! It's all for fun anyway!

On the sidebar (right side) over there you'll see a "Vote Caster" where you can place your vote, easy as pie.

(To avoid any confusion, just so you know there may be more names on the Vote Caster than there are people who placed entries. That is only because not all participants were able to make this contest.)

I'll post here once the voting is done to send you back to see which photo won.

Thank you for taking part in the voting, and enjoy the photo entries!

PEACE!
